Huh.

Interesting link from Treacher--Shepard Fairey, the guy responsible for the ubitiquous but delightfully parodyable Obama-head poster, seems to have plagiarized most of his work. There's some Soviet Revolution imagery, some Maoist/Cultural Revolution imagery, the SS Totenkopf, Black Panthers, and the WPA (heh!), as well as some stylistic but not explicitly fascist/Marxist sources.
The expropriation and reuse of images in art has today reached soaring heights, but that relentless mining and distortion of history will turn out to be detrimental for art, leaving it hollowed-out and meaningless in the process. When I refer to "mining" in this case I mean the hasty examination and extraction of information from our collective past as performed by individuals who do not fully comprehend it. That is precisely what Fairey is guilty of, utilizing historic images simply because he "likes" them, and not because he has any grasp of their significance as objects of art or history.
(bold mine)

Metaphor for the Obama campaign and his plans for the future? For example the "civilian security force." Is he completely ignorant of how quasi-military police have been used in the past and just thinks it sounds cool? Or is that how he wants to appear?

Either way, it's interesting that the Obama poster creator is a hack profiting from his frauds. Metaphor again.

Yeah, and silly me, doesn't Obama think profits and wealth are a bad thing?

Treacher's not a wordsmith like Mark Steyn, but they both have the ability to make me laugh while realizing how screwed we are.

Profits are OK for approved group members. Like private schools and SUVs.
