Shut up and read the lines someone else wrote for you

Gillian Anderson blogs.
And how the hell do you clean the house and make the dinner and do the shopping? I know I am sounding like a complete idiot here but I’m telling you, every last one of you from the beginning of time should be given a medal, and free health insurance, and food coupons, and a government subsidized housekeeper that comes in one day a week per child.

I thought Britain already did that for "long-term unemployed" single mothers. Maybe it's only for the wives of Wahhabist imams...

The Sarah Palin icon brings up another interesting thing I did not comment on today because there's really no point...one of my Facebook "friends" posted a link to the announcement of SarahPAC with the usual "she's so stupid, she should shut up and stay home" commentary.

I really wanted to highlight the absurdity of an unattractive woman, pushing 40, divorced after her husband preferred someone else, childless, working dead-end clerical jobs as long as I've known her--and I'm not being catty, except for "divorced" and "clerical" I could be describing myself--thinking they're smarter and less irrelevant than an attractive sitting governor with a nice family, including a son in the Army protecting us from people who would just as soon kill American women as look at them (and don't treat their own women and children any better).

But there's no point in arguing with that sort of self-absorbtion, is there?

[I would like the SarahPAC website to list some specific policy ideas related to "Sarah Palin's plans to build a better, stronger, and safer America in the 21st century." Sounds nice, but I want substance. But I look forward to seeing what sort of local candidates the PAC supports.]

Comments I want to make on blogs but don't because it's not worth the blizzard of insults I'll get 3

No specific blog singled out for this one...but apparently I'm the only X-Files fan (X-Phile, for those who watched the show as it originally aired) not infected with shrieking BDS.

There was a scene from the movie--this won't give anything away--in a federal building and the camera focused on a framed portrait of the 43rd POTUS. It was unflattering, but humorous, and I laughed, mostly out of joy at NOT seeing Janet Reno and that antimilitary nympho clown who was POTUS during most of the show's run on TV (would be a good one for an X-Files drinking game--JANET RENO! DRINK!!!).

So anyway, all the freaking X-Files movie fan sites are full of users posting about how they pissed their pants laughing at the ChimpyMcHitler reference, and spouting the usual twaddle about how we're living in some fascist unfree world. As if! They wouldn't know a fascist if one forced them to do 50 hours of unpaid labor every year. *cough*

So, a big STFU for all you spoiled brats who started watching the show on DVD two years ago when you were 23 and living in your mom's basement, and got to see the midnight showing because it doesn't matter what time you roll out of bed when you're still living in the basement, thinking you're so cool because you hate George Bush.

I swear, it is impossible for a reasonable adult with even the slightest conservative leanings to participate in the popular culture of the 21st century without getting smacked on the head with a 2x4 every time they venture out.

Short review: Very much for existing fans; one of the guys I was with fell asleep (my fault for keeping them out past 8, I suppose). Needed more explosions. Nice to see Scully as a real doctor, not just doing autopsies. Would have preferred a "sentient fungus the size of the UP" monster. Xzibit is a terrible actor--Agent X is spinning in his grave.

Mostly I'm bummed because it doesn't seem to be very well attended--possibly from lack of publicity--which means there won't be another one with a better monster.

I need a new hobby.

Comments I want to make on blogs but don't because it's not worth the blizzard of insults I'll get 2

I won't link to this poor woman. She can't help being ignorant, she's a hippie from eastern Oregon who gets her news from Obama websites. She's frequently pissy the state government won't give her (healthy, except for the usual kid foibles) grandson free health care because he and her daughter live in her house and both adults work for wages outside the home. Obama will fix this grave injustice! How sick and sad is a society that expects able-and-working families to pay for their own antibiotics+?! (vs a society that will give you free penicillin--bugger off if you're allergic, the budget doesn't allow for fancy alternatives--six weeks later when they call your number to see the doctor...)

Anyway, you can guess what verbiage pissed me off.

Hillary's a "Republican in a Democrat pantsuit"? That's the most mind-blowingly ignorant thing I've read here, and I've read quite a bit.

She's a Communist, just like Obama. The only difference between those two is Hillary will defend the country from the people trying to destroy it from the outside (to protect her plan to finally be the person smart enough to make Marxism work); Obama'll hand Iran nukes and then look surprised and sputter when they go off (watch him next time someone asks him an unscripted question...).

I don't like most of McCain's ideas either--the major difference between him and the DNC Senate leadership is he doesn't get a hard-on when people kill babies and he knows surrender in Iraq is stupid--and eventually SCOTUS will overturn McCain-Feingold for abridging the First Amendment, but he's taking the country to hell in a golf cart instead of the IndyCar the "if you don't vote for me, even though I'm an unqualified power-tripping Marxist, you're a racist/sexist" twins are driving.

Maybe I'm unreasonable; the GOP is looking a lot like the historical DNC...but not much like the current DNC.

Sigh. Another quilting blog I can't read because the "ooh" is less than the blood pressure spike. I occasionally pollute this blog with quilting, but never the other way around. Know your audience, people.

+ Maybe state laws make things more expensive in Oregon; I picked up an antibiotic prescription for my nephew once and it cost $1.25 at the WalMart in Iowa City (or a $10 insurance co-pay, heh). I know the retailers that offer $4 prescriptions as a loss leader can't do it in WI because of the stupid minimum-price law. But what would the cost to taxpayers would be if a government agency had to process all the paperwork involved to get free penicillin to someone? More than $1.25. More than $4. And I suspect the people who shrug and say "swipe cards!" have no idea how much it costs to set up a nationwide system of card readers and the servers to process them. Then again, why should they care? It's magical government money!

*snork*

if you believe fat is the last acceptable prejudice in “polite society”–if not our institutions–you really need to sit down and have coffee with a transperson.

Or a conservative.

I'm kind of bummed by the fat-acceptance movement; non-Marxist, non-feminists are distinctly unwelcome, no matter how much we disapprove of judging people by their appearance and assuming all fat people are lazy pigs.
