Compare, contrast.

From last week: Michelle Obama lies with impunity to gin up fear about the "obesity crisis" among children, so we all feel warm and fuzzy about her husband and Congress taking over every aspect of our lives, right down to what we're allowed to feed our own children.

From the weekend: Michelle's husband and children eat ice cream.

Other than their father being crowned a god-king by the American media, how are Sasha and Malia any different from any other child in America?

I suppose this isn't any different than sending the children to private schools while insisting other parents should not be allowed that choice...I'm no longer fazed by self-appointed aristocracy living lives they would forbid everyone else--restrictions on food and fuel, sumptuary laws for the 21st century--but I'm getting more and more fed up with the people who clamor to be ruled by these tyrannical hypocrites. The hell is wrong with you people?!?! Can you honestly not see what they're doing here?!?

Don't forget! Hour of Power is this Saturday!

Graphic from The PeoplesCube, who recycle their tips from last year. Tim Blair has a roundup of world events: "For some reason, Chicago’s South Side isn’t often mentioned in Earth Hour previews."

Don't forget to call the pizza guy before the Hour begins. May as well make your meaningless hypocritical gesture in comfort. I guess that's why they do it close to an equinox and not in the dead of summer/winter...wait, you don't have to turn off your air conditioner, just your lights. Hell, this year you don't even have to make the supreme sacrifice of turning off your computer. Don't forget to tell your Facebook friends you're sitting in the dark by yourself because you care!

I'll be ironing some fabric while watching a DVD (which is probably what I'd be doing anyway), and baking cookies (with evil non-locally-grown chocolate!). I could drive around the east side noticing that none of the yuppie-hippie types have shut off their outdoor security lighting, but then I wouldn't get fresh cookies. My priorities are in order.

Huh.

When you run for president as a community organizer, and a writer, or even a professor of constitutional law, perhaps it's politic to hide a few salient details about your actual lifestyle that might mess up the "savior of the downtrodden" narrative. It's important to keep up the fiction that only spoiled, indifferent, wealthy Republicans have personal servants.

I swear, everytime I read about things Michelle Obama does or says, I respect her even less. There has to be a bottom here somewhere, right?

Also some blather in the link about "locavore eating." I assume those wagyu steaks our smarter, Earth-caring-er betters were served last night were raised in Georgetown...

This blog powered by recycled sanctimony

Handmade gifts for people who want to Save Teh Planet!!1!, but don't care about it enough to stop drinking beverages made from beans transported thousands of miles (ZOMG, the CARBON!) and served in disposable paper cups. Sometimes it's fun to be an enabler.

Coffee cuffs

"Reclaimed cotton fabric and batting" (read: tiny bits normal people would throw away) coffee cuffs. Notice how, unlike the "green" crafter linked, I did not buy brand new petroleum-based synthetic fabric for my planet-saving endeavor.

Look, a reusable sleeve! I CARE!!

"bowel-stewing self-indulgence of elite liberalism"

If you're reading this, you will enjoy Jonah Goldberg's latest column.

Wasn't there a war--a real one, with guns--fought at some point to rid America of an incompetent self-serving hereditary aristocracy? I saw a documentary about it once.

Huh.

I noticed this new media hypocrisy in passing yesterday, but NewsBusters did the actual work of looking up examples:
Obamas Are 'Fabulously Fit' Follow-up: Press Treated Bush Fitness As 'Creepy' and an 'Obsession'

Note to re-education camp facilitators: I refuse to fall in for calisthenics before breakfast, forced marches between March and October, and aerobic dance at any time. Celebrate diversity!

Granite countertops!?!

The "moderator" of the VP debate is thoroughly smitten with The One. Did anyone seriously expect anything else? After eight years of BDS, are we still that naive?

But this, this is what jumps out at me and irritates me anew:

Barack Obama is sitting in the back of his rented luxury campaign bus with its granite counters and two flat-screen TVs...

His campaign has been collecting little $10 donations from working poor people as well as retired people and college students (maybe he's using "public financing" after all, eh?) for two years--give whatever you can, as an offering toward Hope and Change!!--and his freaking bus has freaking granite countertops?!?!?!

He believes there's a housing crisis, a financial crisis, that rich people have too much money and don't deserve to keep what they've earned for themselves...and his freaking BUS has freaking GRANITE COUNTERTOPS. He "organized" the Chicago projects and pretended to improve the living conditions of real people (he may even believe lining his patrons' pockets was an improvement, I don't know), and nothing got done and he's got GRANITE COUNTERTOPS on his BUS.

And it's a rental, so he can't even donate it to a bookmobile or mobile clinic in November (not that donating his own stuff would ever occur to him--generous tips for good service don't even occur to him).

Televangelists everywhere are cringing in disgust.

Silver lining--because that's how I roll, in my crappy rented apartment with warped plastic counters--some granite countertops contain radioactive minerals. Unless the radiation gives him comic-book super powers. Nevermind.

COEXIST!

I did a Google image search, and learned that the bumpersticker not only offends the Baha'i faith (they're not Pagans and resent their symbol being used to denote Paganism), they've left out Hinduism altogether. *shakes head* Inclusion and diversity and respect, people!

I was going to point out that "it's not just the C who refuses to tolerate other beliefs, no matter what the bumpersticker crowd wants to be true..."

In America, the "right wing" is often used against the Christians. In India, the "right wing" defines the Hindus oppressing the Christians.

Read it, and the WaPo link, and then feel free to explain to me how Christianity and the Enlightenment are the source of all evil and oppression, unlike those beautiful peaceful religions practiced in the developing world for thousands of years.

(I've got a book on Kali, but I'm afraid I won't be able to sleep if I start reading about ritual human sacrifice. I'm a wuss.)

Heh. Heh heh.

Nelson Muntz, call your office.

What could be worse than Wal-Mart?

I thought "progressives" loved recycling. *snicker* It's for Teh Planet, people! Everyone needs to suffer to save Teh Planet, whether you like it or not, and you think you deserve an exemption because you hate WalMart?

Gutfield: "People who hate Walmart really hate the success that's eluded themselves." I'm guessing that's also a reason to hate a recycling facility that turns a profit instead of sucking up tax dollars.

On second thought, it's less funny than it is disgusting.

(I've had an apartment across the street from WalMart in two different Iowa college towns; the traffic wasn't half as bad as when I lived behind the upscale Fashion Mall. Dear God.)
